SURGERY
Our doctors are able to perform most surgeries required. If there is a surgery that your pet needs that our doctors feel a specialist should perform, they will get that information for you and try to arrange the procedure.

We now have the latest in technology in anesthesia monitoring. Our monitoring system will be able to capture your pet's ECG, core body temperature, PCo2 (capnography), PO2 (pulse oximeter), pulse and respiration rates. We place intravenous catheters in all patients undergoing a general anesthesia for their safety as well. We suggest that presurgical blood work be done on all surgical patients so that we may be sure they will handle anesthesia and surgical procedures.

Please be sure to ask for an estimate on all surgeries. We do not want anyone being surprised by a high balance when you come to pick up your pet. We want you to be able to listen to the post operative instructions and comments the doctor may have for you at that time.

Please be sure to follow pre and post operative instructions for your pet.

Always call the hospital if you have any questions regarding your pet's condition following surgery.

CHECK-UP
Our doctors recommend yearly checkups for all pets without any problems. If your pet is over eight years old or has a medical problem, our doctors suggest coming in at least twice a year. There are many medical problems that require examinations or blood work more often. Please follow the recommendations of the doctor.

PREVENTIVE MEDICINE
Our doctors recommend heartworm preventative, flea control, tick control, and vaccinations as ways of preventing your pet from coming down with diseases. Many of the heartworm preventatives also prevent intestinal parasites, fleas, and ticks as well.
Please follow the recommendations of our doctors and staff to help keep your pet healthy for a long time to come.

LABORATORY
Our hospital is equiped to do many laboratory tests. In fact, the hospital recently upgraded the lab with equipment that can give us your pet's complete blood profile in just minutes. In addition, we use several outside laboratories for more comprehensive and specialized tests.

Blood and tissue analysis is very important. When a doctor encourages you to have these samples tested from your pet, consider it carefully before declining. The doctors try to give you all the information that they can on your pet's condition. Blood and tissue analysis many times is required to give you that information.

PHARMACY
Our hospital's pharmacy has a full line of preventative medicines such as Heartworm preventative, antibiotics, antifungal agents, anti-inflammatory agents, paricidal agents, neutricuticals, and herbal products.
If we do not have the drug or medication needed for your pet, our doctors will give you a prescription for these for an outside pharmacy or call it in if that is convenient for you.
There are occassions when we will need to use a "compounding pharmacy". This will happen when we need to use a drug that has been removed from the human and animal market but is still able to be used for animals, such as stilbesterol for urinary incontinence. Also this type of pharmacy may be used when we need to furnish your pet with a different form of a product or a different strength of a medication than can be normally found. An example of this would be using a medication transdermally which is applied to the ear. Another example would be a medication made into a liquid with a tuna flavoring for a cat.
If we use a compounding pharmacy, the technicians will explain to you how to actually acquire your prescription.

DENTISTRY
Prophylactic dental cleanings are very necessary for dogs and cats. Please have the procedure performed on your pet if the doctor suggests it. Waiting can be dangerous. It can lead to tooth root abscesses, gum and sinus infections, tooth loss, and even heart disease.

We now do dental radiographs (X rays) with a new exclusive veterinary dental X ray machine. This will help us determine if your pet has a tooth root abscess brewing so we may take care of that tooth before it becomes painful and infected.

Please follow pre and post dental instructions for your pet. If you have any questions following a dental procedure, please call the hospital.

Please ask for an estimate before dropping your pet off for a dental. We do not want anyone surprised when they come to pick up their pet. We want you to be able to listen to post dental instructions and any comments the doctor or technician may have for you.

Remember February and August are dental health months. Our hospital offers a reduced price dentistry in February and August of each year.

WE NOW OFFER NON-ANESTHETIC DENTAL CLEANING FOR YOUR PETS. THIS IS ARRANGED ONE DAY EACH MONTH, SO PLEASE CALL AND ASK ABOUT OUR NEXT SCHEDULED NON-ANESTHETIC DENTAL CLEANING DAY. YOUR PET WILL NEED TO BE CHECKED BY OUR DOCTORS FIRST TO BE SURE YOUR PET IS ELIGIBLE FOR THIS PROCEDURE. IF YOUR PET'S TEETH NEED ADDITIONAL WORK SUCH AS EXTRACTIONS AND DENTAL X-RAYS, THIS WOULD HAVE TO BE SCHEDULED WITH ANESTHESIA.

LASER SURGERY
Lantana-Atlantis Animal Hospital is proud to announce that we now offer Laser Surgery. Our 15 watt Millennium Medical System, CO2 laser emits a high energy light beam which is absorbed by the water inside living cells, immediately vaporizing the targeted tissue while leaving the surrounding cells undamaged. This produces a more favorable result than traditional surgical techniques, producing less pain, less blood loss, reduced infection, and a faster recovery. Lasers are able to produce these results by sealing nerve endings and blood vessels as they cut by the light beam. Furthermore, the laser's intense energy sterilizes tissue during its use, reducing the possibility of infection after surgery. Also, since there is no physical contact between the surgeon and the surgical site, there is no crushing or tearing of surrounding tissues, reducing swelling and contributing to a faster recovery.

Clinical applications for surgical laser are almost limitless. Feline declaw procedures are one of the most highly publicized uses for the laser in veterinary surgery. The results obtained from the laser declaw method are nothing short of remarkable. The procedure is almost completely bloodless, and postoperatively, the cat's feet are much more comfortable and very cosmetic. Another notable application is the removal of skin tumors that are very common in older dogs. With the laser, many of these tumors can be removed with only a local anesthetic and minimal shaving of hair. In some instances, the tumors can be removed during a standard office visit and the pet can go home immediately. Reduced surgical time and anesthetics may even reduce total client costs in certain procedures. Other examples of laser surgical procedures include: dog and cat neutering, oral surgery, and wound debridement.

Please feel free to call us with further questions regarding this remarkable advancement for veterinary medicine.
